The Mauser I started asking questions about last week arrived today. Which is prompting some additional questions.

First, I can confirm that all the numbers match, including the stock and the smooth steel buttplate. No visible caliber is marked, but under the barrel I found "7,85 8,2 240" which I interpret to be a bore & groove diameter of 0.309" & 0.323". Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that indicates 8x57 JS. What does the "158,14" mean, if anything?

Also, next to the serial number marking in the barrel channel was what appears to be a transverse "H". Is that the model designation? If anything I was expecting to see an "L", or nothing at all.
