Of course much Kentucky long rifle styling (especially in the 18th century) is a direct descendant of traditional German gunmaking of the period, and that German styling continued in pretty pure form right into the 20th century, as you can see above. Huge subject I could talk about all day.

What gets me is that little rifle is chambered for that cannon cartridge and has a plain metal buttplate. Talk about style over comfort! That's a beautiful rifle - I wish I could snatch it up. I always admire Peterlongo work.
