Quote: Real german 8 mm rifles are .318". German gunmakers used the tighter .318" bores to improve accuracy, but most military rifles had .323" with both versions of the bore. The army just widened the neck in the chamber 0,004" to take the slightly fatter S-bullet. The .323" S-bore and the S-versions of the 8 mm cartridges, however, became german standard in 1939.
