Looks exactly like an A-Type Mauser. That would also explain the smooth feeding, etc. as Mauser lavished a bit of extra care on the A-Grades. C&H probably bought it from Mauser in the white, had their name engraved on the barrel, put it through the Proof House, and sold it.
