interesting sights on H&H

I just saw this H&H sporter at the Beinfeld show in Las Vegas and have never seen sights like it

Neat idea, I would suppose one could "modify" any flip up sight to that configuration and mount it backwards. --- John

As to distinguish it from the .30/03 cartridge - Cool! - An early rifle, fairly soon after 1906, it would appear.

Its hard to tell on my monitor but it looks a slight bit different, finish and patina-wise, than the action. As if it may be a later add-on. Even if it is, Holland's could've installed it. Love to see the ledger page for it. I've seen a few flip-up peeps similar to that on W/R, H&H, and Purdy doubles but never a Brit magazine rifle. The G&H and Hoffmans with the rear square bridge inlet for a small peep are cool, too.

Notice the front sight blade folds as well. That makes me think it was installed originally.

Could be an original fitment.
That front blade is quite stout - thick.
See that the front blade is taller than the peep blade? I would think that they are set up for the same distance and the peep is a shorter blade because it's base is mounted a little higher up in relation to the bore.
Would be perfect for that shot when a quick flip of the thumb brings the peep into position. A neat idea none the less.
I got out to shoot my TypeA 30'06 last weekend.
Can't think of a more perfectly suited light/medium than the 30'06 in a classic Mauser!

There are a couple of things which might suggest that the peep is not original.
First, although the peep sight is quite well made, it just doesn't look like the quality workmanship you would expect from Holland.
Second, there is evidence that the rifle was at some time fitted with a cocking piece peep sight.
You can see the guide pin fitted in the rear bridge in one of the photos.
Maybe the cocking piece peep was original?
Whatever the case, the rear bridge peep should work really well in the field, that's for sure.
