Weatherby South Gate FN in .300 H&H

Specs on the rifle are;
FN Mauser action
24" barrel in .300 H&H
barrel is marked APEX 1957, serial number corresponds with the date.

In many of these WBY Mausers I seen, owned, worked on, this is the first one with a "APEX". I have had a pile of them with "Timken", "Borg Warner" and not a few "P.O. Ackley" marked ones.
Fairly plain, but sturdy european walnut stock with appropriate white diamond in pistol grip.

Has gotten a clean up, touched up the crown, bedded and the ancient Bushnell scope has been replace with a Nilon Monarch 6x for now. I will be on the hunt for that just right classic scope for it.

I have traded for some Winchester ammo, new brass and RCBS dies. It shoots well with a 180gr Nosler. In the trade I recieved some 165gr nosler BTs loaded with S361 that I may try as well. Not much load work for now as it is more than accurate enough and hunting season is just weeks away.

Winter my call for a trip to the "spa" for freshening as well as addressing the "rough" chamber. Appears to be pitted ever so slightly, just ahead of the belt, causing a bit of a hitch during extraction.

How well does it do with those 180 gr noslers?

Visited the "range" today to test another recent repaired rifle and took the .300 along.
Last time out I had a nagging suspicion that the scope was giving up. Some test firing today has indeed confirm that it has.

Fired some 220gr Hornady handloads today as well as its go-to 180gr Nosler. Those 220's rate very high on the Cool scale.
