Re: Newly acquired 1910 Mannlicher

Rothhammer, I read through that thread and several others, which is why I joined this forum. What you see for Austrian Proof Marks is all that is visible. I learned for other posts that this is a post 1924 but, pre-1926 manufactured receiver. The "OESTERR.WAFFENFABR-GES.STEYR" stamping on the side of the receiver is pre-1926, but looks to have been buffed, like one sees on rifles that have been re-finished. But who knows. What Austrian proofs there are say 38, so post-Anschluss but, pre-German system?

The 38 grains of surplus 4895 is a load that shows promise with the custom 260gr cast bullet I have. I have a large quantity of the Hornady 270gr RN on hand. That is a bullet I shoot out of my custom Santa Barbara Mauser actioned 375 Whelen Improved. I also have on hand the Speer 235gr semi-spitzer bullets to try.

I am part of a hunting club that has a 244 acre lease along the Pea River here in South Alabama. Most of the hogs we shoot are mature boars and sows. Not something this old Iowa farm boy would consider eating. I grew up eating 6 month old corn feed pork. If you have ever been around an old boar the smell is not only on the outside and taints the meat.
