Have you checked to see if that specific model had gain/progressive twist rifling?
The early rifle models had 22.78 INCHES twist at the chamber end tightening to 7.93 INCHES at the muzzle, so shortening the barrel might leave you with a very slow twist rate not suitable for the wide range of bullet weight/lengths.
No gain twist rifling in the barrel. Barrel length is original. The rifle wood was really botched. I'm on the home stretch of the build. The trigger guard is really giving me fits with rust bluing. Having a difficult time getting it to blacken.
