Snap caps are better. What caliber? I could not find a snap cap for my 6.5X54, so I took a spent brass, and glued a pencil eraser in the primer pocket. Now the firing pin has something to hit, instead of peening itself on the inside of the bolt face.
This what I do.
Meant to add. I will use a minimum of 2 preferable 4. I leave the rifle at the shoulder and cycle all through, firing on each one to simulate field shooting.
