The stock went for $ 660.00, the buttplate for $ 189.50, = $ 859.50 total. Seems to be grossly overpaid imho. A M-S stock of quite ordinary wood, covered in excessive amounts of some True Oil. It needs sripping that gunk off and a thorugh refinish by someone who knows. The buttplate in another auction isn't in prime condition either. As I needed a working replacement stock for a M-Sch M1905 in 9x56, I found a weathered and rusted half stock on German egun 6 weeks ago. It came with a slightly rust pitted trap buttplate and sling swivels. The egun photos looked really sorry. Nothing to cheer about , but it set me back just Euro 14.01 + 5.00 shipping, about US $ 23.- total. It had a minor split, but that was taken care of by some glass bedding and two brass reinforcing pins. Here is what it looks like now, after some careful sanding and refinishing, swivels not yet mounted: OK, the shipping was Euro 10.- indeed, but the parcel included an equally sorry Mauser stock. As noone else was interested, I got it for the starting price, Euro 1.-. Someday I will find some use for it too and refinish it too. |
