I shot a young bull moose (long yearling maybe 250lbs.) with my 9.3x57 - similar ballistics I assume, with a 270gr. Speer starting out at 2,300fps and hitting the moose at 200yards, impact vel. about 1,850fps. The bullet hit on a rising angle, though the leg bone beside the rib cage. Killed the moose, but that particular bullet went to pieces on the 2 1/2" diameter leg bone, with frags entering the on-side lung. It did knock the animal down for an easy finishing shot. With good bullets, like the 250gr. old style Barnes I now have, the RWS, Norma or the Nosler's I would not hesitate to shoot anything you can find in NA with it, including the big bears. |
