Don't feel too bad. Surely, most who viewed these items in the U.S. of 1939 (the 'great depression') felt the same way.
According to usinflationcalculator.com , that $15.00 would equate to $271.95 in today's USD.
A Takedown in 10.75x68 with the folding peep sight, sight protector, 'stock of specially selected pretty wood', and Antinit barrel with rib ($93 of options added to a $175 rifle) would have cost today's equivalent $4858.82 .
Perhaps for an even 'five grand' they'd throw in the removable grip cap with extra sight bead stored therein (not listed in the Stoeger)?
