Another English retailed Mannlicher

I thought I would share another of my English retailed Mannlichers.
Comparing it to the day it left CB Vaughan’s Retail premises at 99 Strand, London in the late 1930s it appears not much has changed before coming into my procession more than 75 years later.
I envisage a local purchase, most likely for an intended Stalking holiday in the Highlands of Scotland…well that’s what I chose to believe.
The rifle has clearly been shot, evidenced by some small amount of jacket fouling in the bore as well as a recovered bullet from a successful stalk I located in the bottom of its case. In a way that was the nicest surprise of all. All case items appear to be in place including a rather interesting front sight device. (Pictured below). Clearly the owner wanted to ensure he could pick up the sight quickly.
The case itself has all original straps, handles and fittings and is in excellent condition throughout. On opening the case for the first time I was greeted with that indescribable smell of Young’s 303 oil. It’s interesting how a smell can trigger memories of earlier times.
String pull throughs have not been used (thankfully as they are horrible things) and the neat cane cleaning road is correct and in place. The butt trap still housing the Factory Rod.
It’s a Model 1925 removable stock. The North American followers here will be very glad to see its chambered in the venerable nought 6!!. Proof date is 1938.
Hope you enjoy.

Best
Eric
