Not only did its pages offer everything from handkerchiefs and pocketwatches to carriages and pre fabricated homes to those in the rural United States, but 'back issues' were quite useful in outhouses from coast to coast. They also, of course, offered firearms and accoutrements for sale. Note: 'G.A.R.' was the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of Union veterans of the U.S. 'War Between the States' of 1861 - 65, a.k.a. 'Civil War' or 'War of the Rebellion'. To members of the U.C.V. (United Confederate Veterans) it was oft referred to as 'The Yankee Invasion". BR. |
