Re: How to tell if a Takedown?

You can tell the date of proof on the rifle from the Austrian proof stamp on the barrel.. a four digit number with a dot followed by a two digit number. The two digit number is the year of proof (Usually closely following manufacture of the rifle).

I know Swaziland a little, my father worked there in 1964, he was a Captain QM on secondment from the British army to the Swazi government at the time. Did a 12 month stint there & enjoyed it too. Nice country.

Takedowns in good condition are really nice rifles and give just a little more MV than the stutzens as they have a longer barrel. I have a M1903 takedown and would love also to get another M1924/1925 7x57 (.275 Rigby) stutzen. Delightful rifles and real treasures to use.
