Re: 6.5x68 Opinion

The only thing I shot with my 6.5x68 (on a rechambered ,96 Mauser) was 2 snowshoe hares, one 10 yards behind the other - 210 and 220yards - 1 shot.
My buddy, who inspired me to test one, has always had at least one 6.5x68 - He loves the round.

Most memorable moose for him, was a cow taken on a limited entry tag - 300yard shot. The bullet hit her just West of the bung hole and stopped in the hide at her brisket. 120gr. Barnes "X" - 3,350fps mv. 9" twist required. this was an earlier "X" bullet, which lost 3 of the 4 pedals, yet still made it lengthwise on the adult moose.

To say he loves the round, is an understatement.

The bullet I used, as a 129gr. Hornady, sifting along at only 3,000fps MV (29") - in deference to the older M96 action.

Keith's normal loads for those run in the 3,200fps range - 26" bl. of course.

It was a single shot only and to extract a loaded round, the bolt had to be "pulled" slightly.
