Re: making 6,5x53R brass

I make 6.5X53R Dutch using 3 dies.

I push the shoulder back with a 7.35 Carcano FL die made by RCBS. The base is larger than some other brands so it does not squash the heads undersize.

Then I form the neck down to .299 using a Pacific 6.5 Carcano trim die.

Make sure you leave the shoulder about .005 to .010 long with the Carcano dies.

Then I form in a 6.5X53R trim die and cut off the case with a trimmer or in a lathe.
I fit the head to shoulder length exactly to my rifle's chamber so it effectively headspaces on the shoulder.

From here I can neck size with a 6.5X55 FL die.

For normal reloading I use RCBS 6.5X53R dies. My dies are about .452 to .453 at the head which is a good close fit to my chamber.

6.5X54 MS dies are closer to .448 at the base and do not work for me in spite of what others say.
