John the Dutch had a 1895 model Mannlicher so the 1911 would be a manufacture date and the 1940 would be when it was last rebarreled. It looks to be in very good condition especially if it was used in Indonesia , normally they are beat to hell when the colonials finished with them. I would agree that if it's all matching it's more of a collectors piece than a candidate for a sporter. As a matter of interest a quantity of these rifles were sent to Lithgow in about 1940 to be rebarreled to 303 British ,from memory they were lost when the ship carrying them back was sunk. |
