Hi Phillip--Congrats on your new rifle. I assume the peep is the coveted Lyman 36? If so, I have experience with several rifles so equipped, and they all work fine. I guess the swinging arm does seem like a weak link in the chain to the modern sensibility, but the sights seem to stay put regardless. I've never used the cocking-piece mounted peep, so can't comment there. On the other hand, if you're already set up with a G&H mount, maybe your eyes would appreciate a scope! For what it's worth, have you seen the new book on Hemingway's guns? One of his Mannlichers also had a sidemount, but no rings or scope. |
