Well, by one measure the combination of rifle, scope and mount is superb. Once I got it sorted out the groups were well under an inch and the best was just over .5. The question about the size of the scope goes to a different measure. Much of the appeal of the MS carbine is its handiness, and the G&H mount and 3-9X scope make it significantly heavier if not unwieldy. I've used 1.5-5X scopes for WI whitetail (.308) and for buffalo and bear (.375). But, I've used 2-7X (7mm) and 3-9X (.338) in MT and liked them. So, I put a larger scope on the MS .270 thinking of it as an antelope and sheep rifle. (I'm really not that specialized or that organized, but that's how it came together.) I plan on deer hunting with it next week, although most of my WI experience leads me to expect that the scope will be left on 3X. Anyway, it's still work in progress, and if the progress is slow, it has been a lot of fun. Thanks for asking. Tom |
