She's a beaut, GG--Does your rifle have the pre-war trapdoor buttplate? Maybe it was built pre-war as a conventional 1903, then upgraded later at either Steyr or in Britain with proper, post-war factory parts. Or maybe it was assembled post-war out of remaining early supplies? Have you checked the proof code on the underside of the action? That should at least clear up when it passed through the Austrian proof house (the last two digits following the period [.] indicate year of proof, i.e. 1234.20 would denote 1920). Regardless of when it was built or in what original configuration, it's a great blend of features that looks absolutely correct, and in gorgeous shape to boot. Have fun with her! Malcolm |
