The union of Germany with Austria took place in 1938. From sometime in 1938/39 the front ring marking on M-S rifles was changed to: Made in Germany. What was the name of the factory prior to 1938? If the name of the factory was changed in 1938/39, what was the name changed to? thank you I have a few Mannlicher Schoenauer carbines/rifles, one of which is marked on the front ring Made in Germany, a 6.5x54mm. Perhaps one day when accumulate enough Posts/Replies, shall be able to share with the Posting of pictures of M-S carbines... |

Here are the names of the company from 1864 to now. As you see, there was no change of the company name in 1938. From 1938 to 1945 the guns were “Made in Germany” instead of “Made in Austria” only. 1864 Josef & Franz Werndl & Company 1869 Oesterreichische Waffenfabriksgesellschaft AG (OEWG), Steyr 1926 Steyr Werke AG 1934 Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG 1989 Steyr Mannlicher GmbH |
