A member from Norway who occasionally posts here contacted me to tell me that a gunsmith in his country had made two Mannlicher-Schonauer actions out of Titanium alloy. I have requested pictures and information. If any of our members knows more about this project, please do post information. I'm guessing that someone would know - we have some of the best informed members on the gun trade anywhere. Good hunting! |

Yes, a year ago it was about $5000 - 6000 for a 3 foot long machines bar 2 inches diameter and metal prices were still going up so hate to think what it ended up getting to. . |

Gentlemen, I did talk to the gentleman who told me about these and he has assured me that he would get more information. From what I understand two prototypes have been made by the company in question, but they are not in production - yet. The company planning to offer these actions is in the UK, and I shall look forward to the gentleman who gave me this information posting here, as I understand that he is joining our band on Ne.com. Good hunting! |

The material costs are high, but we're talking under $500/foot for 2"Ø mat'l. Alone it adds cost, and machine time will add cost too. The biggest add to cost (by far) will be "Titanium Mystique" cost. I'm sure the actions will be silly-light though! They can save weight in the magazine with delrin or some other super-monomer. Gentlemen, I have some feedback from the manufacturer, A - B Tactical, about their Mannlicher Schonauer prototypes and planned production: Quote [I think the way we are looking to make this mannlicher with the traditional full stock and short carbine barrel the rifle is likely to be in the 4 to 4.5 lb range, my own mannlicher which is a pre production prototype, proofed 1891 is only 6.25 lbs as it stands, we would also be looking to make them in the 6.5x54, 7x57, 8x57, 9.3x57 and 9.5x57 calibres rather than the traditional short action sizes, though we can make to any size required.] End Quote. He is going to join the forums and post more details. The company also has a Martini sporter that they are launching in 2012. I shall let Al post more details. Good hunting! |
