1961 Mannlicher-Schoenauer MCA
|
|
I am about to become the proud owner of a 1961 Mannlicher-Schoenauer MCA .30-06 with the 1/2 sporter stock. Somewhere in its life the front and rear sights were removed completely. Where could I obtain original sights and who could install them? I am guessing the rear sight would be the main issue since they went to so much trouble to remove it completely. Did they come with a vented butt pad? Any reccomendations for a solid pad? Here is a link with pictures: http://24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubb...FS#Post4225133.

The only real complaint I have with this model is the swept back bolt handle. How difficult would it be to have the bolt handle straightened?

Just looked at mine. The handle has a slight angle back at the root. To look good, obne would have to cut the handle and grind the top of the root flat before weldong on a new handle. Trying to have the present handle straightened will most likely not be asthertically pleasing.

I will have to look at it when it arrives and see if I can get used to it. Ihave had a 1910, 1908 and a 1950 not to mention a few Model M Pros and they all had the straight bolt handle which looks better to me but I may get used to it. I figure this gun has already been messed with so I can't really hurt it.

What would be the best way to rfinish the stock? I want a hand rubbed oil finish, no white line spacers and a solid recoil pad.
