Qantas requires a pre-approval procedure for passengers wishing to carry firearms and ammunition in their checked luggage. Qantas - Dangerous goods web information page The person to contact at QANTAS is :- Mr Michael Montuori Dangerous Goods Operations Manager Tel 02 9691 1430 Int'l +61 2 9691 1430 mmontuori@qantas.com.au Another contact: Mr Laurie Willoughby Dangerous Goods Compliance Tel 02 9691 8463 Int'l +61 2 9691 8463 Qantas will provide you with a faxed (maybe emailled) letter of permission to carry with you for your flight(s). The procedure is fine and I have never had any problems myself. However they may refuse to accept the firearms and ammunition if it has not been pre-arranged. In reply to: Ammunition must be carried separately to firearms and ammunition must not exceed 5 kgs in weight per person. Ammunition should be carried in original factory ammunition boxes or ammo cases similar to MTM caseguards. The main issue is each round must be separated and they should not rattle against each other without being separated. In reply to: If entering Australia an import permit will be required for both your firearm(s) and ammunition you are carrying. |
