Quote: Mine is marked on the butt socket with “LEE-SPEED / PATENTS / B.S.A.Co” and the serial number 5004. The “heavy refurbishing” was some cleaning with acetone and fine steel wool, steaming out some small dents, some applications of English CCL Gunstock Conditioning Oil and tlc. Black horn foreend tips were standard on BSA sporting pattern No.1 and No.2 grade Lee – Speeds. But their use is much older. They are quite common on British and continental single barrel rifles from 1870 on. I have even seen such foreend tips on British target muzzleloaders. |
