that is a really strange rifle. I would love to see the build sheet for it. it looks like it must have originally been a commercial full wood target pattern rifle, but where is the safety? it doesn't have the cocking piece safety or the cut out in the bottom of the cocking piece for the SMLE type safety either. were they allowed thumb safeties in military rifle comps? if it had a metford barrel i'd think it was originally was a commercial MLM II but they state it has enfield rifling. neither the action or the barrel look to be restamped and it has a pre SMLE knox form so it is not a replacement SMLE barrel marked to match (plus in ww1 the barrel was the control item not the action). |
