It was definitely made as a commercial rifle, quite possibly a CLLE as Hihgwood states. It appears to have a faint military inspection mark on the knox form denoting conformity to a military specification so that the rifle could be used in military rifle competitions. If so the butt has been added later, as it would have to have had a military style butt originally. It's a bit hard to see the inspection mark clearly. Whatever the case it has seen military service because of the two sold out of service marks. Apart from the above there does not appear to be any other military proof or inspection marks on any other components. Looking at the serial number its quite an early rifle. Regards Alan |
