Re: Lee Speed by BSA

Weird.

It's too late to be a true LEE SPEED patent rifle, hence the lack of LEE SPEED PATENT & the patent usage number on the right action strap and the patent # on the bolt head.

It's engraved like a #2 Pattern rifle, but it doesn't have a fore-end tip or pistol grip cap, which would make it a #3 rifle, except for the fact it is engraved, which the #3 Pattern did not have.

Unlike the (late) #4 Pattern, the front sling swivel is not held on by way of a #1 Mk. III barrel band (actually it is there, from the photo, but the barrel also has the sling swivel like the earlier ones).

Unlike the late #4's, it doesn't have a gutta percha butt-plate, but it looks like it has the steel trap butt-plate, which is either a #3 or if engraved, a #2 Pattern.

Also, unlike the late #4's, it appears to have a silver initial oval forward of the toe.

The fish belly magazine looks like it is not fully seated. If it is not, check to make sure the receiver has the correct Lee Metford mag. cut-off installed. Otherwise, you will bugger up your magazine's right feed lip.

I'd also wager it has been re-blued.
