JohnK The cut out around the top hole on the left side of the action is where the safety rotated AFAIK Never say never, but I was of the impression that the carbines had a swept bolt handle and the outer side of the bolt handle and knob had a flat on them. The action is definitley military and was sold out of service, the broad arrows facing each other in one of the pics denotes this. -><- A competent gunsmith is the best (and IMO the safest) bet to see if she is road worthy. +1 for using the bolt with the safety on the cocking piece, looks more Lee Speedish I think.
