The Mk.1 has a spring loaded ball engaging two holes in the cutoff so it is pulled strait out - the Mk.II has a lug on the top surface and so has to be pressed down and out to disengage.
There are not many common parts between the Mk.I and Mk.II.
I have only seen one BSA sporter based on the Mk.I and it had the dimple as I remember.
