Hi all.......new to this site. I have owned a BSA No 1 Lee Speed Conversion in .303 calibre for about 21 years. I paid $140 NZD for it back then. I took it out shooting and flogged the hell out of it. One day I took it in to a Gun Smith who nearly died when he saw it! He said he would strip it and clean and oil it and I was to take it home and put it in the wardrobe and forget about it. He also said if I ever wanted to sell it he wanted first option on it. He said he would never own a .303 except for this one. Any way I moved to Australia 13 years ago and bought it with me. Every one who has seen it that knows anything about firearms wants to buy it. Shoots very very accurately. Now I dont want to sell it but I would love to know some history about it. Here is the overview from the Gun Smith who appraised it in NZ many years ago. BSA No 1 Lee Speed Conversion in .303 calibre. Serial 3708. Re barreled in 1959 with a Heavy duty MK 111 barrel. Fitted with a Lyman aperture rear sight and Lyman front ramp. Bolt handle has been spooned. Magazine has been cut down to a 5 Round. Can any one give me any information on this rifle or point me in the direction of a book on the history of these rifles? regards Scott |
