This weeks fun. Dog, .22 Magnum and I were going for a walk and ran into a Red Bellied Black Snake. Siegfried the pointer looked too interested in a nervous way in a patch of grass in a small old dam in a side of a hill and went into half a point. Knowing the look I called him off and went to investigate and found a coiled Red Bellied Black snake with its head raised 8 cm or so looking at me. Red bellied Blacks are less poisonous than the Common Brown snake normally found around here, but in my experience far more aggressive. A Brown usually would move away and hide in this situation. A Red Bellied with stand its ground, sometimes lifting its head up a couple of feet above the grass. Sometimes they will aggressively pursue whatever is invading its territory. |
