One question for our European hunter members, trophy shoulder mounts? The common practice in Europe is often a mounted skullcap trophy display, possible on a wooden shield. Or for a boar, often just the tusks on a carved wooden shield. If a hunter wanted a shoulder mounted trophy of a roebuck or a boar, how feasible is it? I had trouble when living in England and hunting roebuck in Northumberland, unsuccessfuly, only a weekend, but I had discussed wanting a shoulder mount if successful. The Gamekeeper didn't like this at all, as they had to supply the whole beast for venison sales, un-skinned, only the head and some of the insides/gut removed. So a skull or skull cap mount was feasible but not shoulder mount where the head and cape from behind the front shoulders is needed. If living there with a fridge, freezer, I'd try to buy the whole carcass myself, butcher it myself and eat it at home. Or if not living there, give it to someone. In theory solves the problem. But again, bureaucracy, as I think for any human consumption some organs needed to be inspected, even for on own farm consumption?! Similarly for boar. A good boar shoulder mount would be very nice. How feasible is it to get that if hunting? IMO a red stag, a wild boar and a roebuck are the epitome of European hunting medium beasts. |
