I had a friend from down South visiting with me up here & went hunting in an area I'd showed him before I had to go to work. After I got off work, he was back at the house and had shot a mule deer buck.
We went back out just before dark with my springer to find the deer. We went down to the spot he figured the deer was when he's shot - a good 175-200 yards down into a slash of high weeds, stumps and branches, no blood but he insisted he'd hit it with his .300 Savage with 200gr. RN ST's. Same factory ammo he'd used for moose the year before. He pointed the direction the deer took off to, so I pointed my dog in that direction, and simply said "Find the bird". She went straight to it, just like your lab, Rod. The deer had gone about 60yards in really thick shin-tangle, but my little bird dog found it. We gutted it out and carried it back to my truck.
