Not sure where their "elk" as a separate species is coming from? Other than perhaps misplaced historical nomenclature/naming. It's possible that scandinavians discovered first the wapiti on the east coast of North America and call it Elk because it was a big deer like the european moose. In this time the red deer was unknow in south scandinavian. A deer is a radjur or a hjort of norwegian or swedish. |
