They walked here when there was a land bridge during the last Ice Age... if not before. The ice sheet covered Scandinavia but only came down as far as The Wash in the UK. South of that was the land bridge. It only got washed away when the lake formed by the melt waters at the end of the Ice Age broke through into what is now the English Channel.
