It was just mere luck that two single boar tried to pass by my stand, about an hour apart. The rest was only rising the rifle, pushing the safety off, aiming without stopping the swing and pressing the trigger. As the season for roebucks older than one year is open from May 1 to October 15, we try to avoid shooting bucks in winter. To keep the roe deer population in balance with their environment it is necessary to shoot at least as many does and kids as bucks. Otherwise the damage to young broadleave trees gets out of hand and the deer will suffer from overpopulation. Contrary to the photo above most of our forests consist of beech, oak, maple and ash. The season for does and kids runs from September 1 to January 31. So we shoot kids and does in autumn and winter. |
