Swedish Wildboar hunt....

I came back yesterday from a Wildboar hunt in the south of Sweden. Two day of hunting with 7 clients, Thursday and Friday. I have a hunt for business friends once a year. We did hunt with specialized Boar dogs. Moosedogs like Laika, Jämthund and crossbreedings between Norwegian grey and Wachtel. So only Boars were allowed. During the days the Boars are laying in thick young forest, most often in Spruce forests. So they are very thick and demanding for those with dogs to go through. The forests in pics are not representive for those thick ones. Often you meet a Boar on a distance of 1 meter, you can be over runned if you are in the wrong place. We were sitting in stands or on the ground surrounding these areas and hunted three or four areas a day.
Day one we shot two Boars, I did shoot one of them a female, but the hunters did shoot bad and did not hit three. Several were also running through and hunters were not able to take a shot. They run rather fast and if the dogs are very close its dangerous for the dog if you take a shot.
Day two we had very bad weather, with rain and very hard wind. Bad for the hunters but good for hunting I think. We were only 5 hunters. The boars couldn´t hear us and were undisturbed when we did find them. So if you could keep the rain from the scopes the chances were rather good. But it was also harder for the dogs to find the boars. We did find some boars and shot 3, I did shoot a young one that came up on a road in high speed with a dog jus 2 meters behind. You need to have Boars rather close. Those shot on DVD are in 30-40 meters. The chances to have a bad shot and a hard searching for wounded animals increasing with distance. The hunters need to be disciplined. Though it was great days with some nice dinners together with good friends. Lots of jokes and laughing. I did use my Blaser with silencer and a Zeiss 1,5-6x42 Varipoint. That scope is a good choice on these hunts. 9,3x62 286 North Fork.
Best regards Staffan
