Re: Eisbär und U-Boot. A couple rifles involved...

yes, its a nice pic
I think it was something of a status symbol for an u-boot crew sailing in artic waters to have an polar bear trophy like an english lord had a tiker skin laying for the fire place. indeed there is not much room in this old submarines like anyone knows how was in such a boot. thinking about the smell of the fresh pelt in the boot...
dont believe that the submachine gun was involved but they were sometimes very good to made action pictures. the 9mm parabellum(luger) cartridge is actually the best pistol round ever but no big game hunting cartridge. remember cases where the police was called because a wild boar found themself in a living roam or similar and they pump more than 60 rounds with the Mpi 5 into the animal to kill it.
somewhere I have a pic from a sailor in his swimming trunks with an Mpi 40 on board of a submarine watching his comrades swimming in the ozean as a shark guard.
if the sailors here were hunters or not what would you do in such a situation if the man around you say shoot it for us.
real hunters use every possibilty on rare game in peace and in war like this honourable gentleman on capercaillie in norway.
