Re: Off to the Land of the Vikings!

Ladies & Gentleman,

Back in Oz again, after visiting Norway, Denmark and London.

First in Norway, we had a couple of days bird shooting for capercallie and black grouse. Did get a shot off at a black grouse the second morning but unfortunately failed to drop it. However the hunting was very enjoyable, capercallie and black grouse are great game birds and challenging hunting.

Later three days joining Erik's moose hunting team and Erik conveniently did tie up a yearling to a tree on the first morning so I was a very lucky hunter in being able to shoot a moose the first morning of the elg hunting season. Speaking to many hunters in the team many take approximately only one moose a year on average over their hunting careers and hunt from seven days to a fortnight each year, so a first morning success was very lucky indeed. I was put into a good position so was doubly lucky. Erik joined me on the first hunt but after that I was on my own at a shooting stand. Had a couple of other opportunities but will leave that to the story with pictures.

After Norway, I flew down to Copenhagen to visit Peter and stay with him for some pheasant and roe buck hunting either on his own farm or at his syndicate's forest. Good and enjoyable stalking with some high stand sitting as well. We hunted fairly hard at times, the forest was thick with leaves in October so stalking had to be very careful. Had some success to, on the last day, a pheasant and a roe female (for meat) so the efforts in the end were rewarded.

The hospitality during my trip was fantastic and I hope to repay it one day when the gentlemen head down to the Southern Hemisphere one day.

Visited London and the 'new' Rigby's gunmaker, Mark, Peter being another Danish connection of the firm. Tried out a B class shotgun on some clays, and it is a beautiful gun, but my clay busting prowess needs honing, being more instinctive than skilled.

Also visited the Beretta Gallery and met some very nice guys, plus a long chat with a gentleman at Holland & Holland, William Evans also, and also dropped in for a look at Purdeys. Boss had shifted premises so I did not make it there. Also missed out on visiting Ron Wharton unfortunately as I couldn't make it down to his premises. Maybe next time.

The trip and visit was way to short and hopefully will visit Scandinavia again.

I sat next to two Finnish ladies on the flight from London to Singapore whom were travelling to Australia for a holiday and guess what? One of the ladies' husband is also a moose hunter in Finland.
