Our society counts 60 members and we hunt 6000 hectares - however from those 60 only 15 or 20 hunt actively - this year we have a quota of 6 trophy stags. You are permitted only 1 stag/year - it should be a B class (above 10 y.o. stag is an auto B class). Things happen and if you end up shooting A class, you get a personal 3 year ban on stag hunting (inner society agreement). We try to be mutual, so if you shoot a stag one year you restrain yourself during the next year season so others can have a go at it and only jump in if quota is not achieved in closing stage of the season. So it is hard to evaluate succes rate - if you are capable to hold out for 14 days of hard hunting during the rut you have prety good chances of getting one - depends on others of course - with every stag shot your chances are narrover, especialy if the only stag remaining is the one that should be over 10 y.o. - those are realy hard to get - A and B classes are more inner agreement, however age class set quota is State based so a local society is bounded to fullfilment with all the penalties that come along. If you shoot a stag above the age restricted quota - the whole society will hunt one less next year...same goes if you fail to achieve quota etc. Bit tricky, but the fact that we will achieve our quota in 14 days (more or less) is quite talkative. |
