Maybe there could be some delay before Chamois from different locations start to moult ( = same as Roe-, and Red deer), according to available food, weather conditions, age, etc. Normally, shedding may start as per september. Of course, we're talking about the Alpine Chamois (Rupicapra Rupicapra) which differs from his Pyrenean cousin, the Izard (Rupricapra Pyrenaïca). The latter is not only smaller but he differs in colour too : red in summer and dark brown/grey in winter. This being said, I'm not a specialist in Chamois (I shot only one !). Mouse93 intimately knows them and maybe he could " shed " - pun intended...- some light on the subject... |
