That must be the reason for the sort of odd mag arrangement on the old ones with the floorplate that opened and held the magazine?

I see Browning has all sorts of cobbled-together semi's based on the basice BAR action, now. Some sort of assault-rifle styled. Really weird.

I've never owned one, but have heard many good reports of the older BAR's, specifically accuracy and reliability. Years ago we sold lots in the store in Michigan.
