A Carcano cavalry carbine (preferably a M 91/38 with its fixed rear sight) is not a bad gun for the somewhat smaller feral hogs of US and other foreign provenance. The heavy 160 grains bullet gives good penetration, and in its FMJ incarnation will take any big game on earth, supposing precise shot placement. Even under German hunting law, the 6,5x52 Carcano is still (though barely) legal on all cloven-hoof game. However, for hunting or target shooting you'll either have to secure custom-made bullets in the proper diameter (*not* the common .264", but .266"-.268"), or you'll have to experiment until you find a smaller bullet that still gives sufficient bore obturation.
