Re: roebuck season 08

Thanks for starting this Peter! Always love to see the roedeer!

Can you fellows give us a rundown on the natural habits of these critters? They are totally different than our deer/elk, etc.

IIRC, they lose their horns in the fall and regrow them to full size about now?

Breeding, gestation, fawning season?

9,3 i will try to do a quick run down of what i know:

yes they loos the horns every year late fall, and grow new and bigger for the first 6-8 years then the horns recline in size.(but the old ones are the most fun to hunt though)

young one

a bit older

in his prime

this was an old guy

the breeding starts in denmark around july through august, and they fawn in may. they stop the growth of the fawn during the winter time, so it dont take energy away from the roe(real clever they are).

in denmark they weigh between 20kg to 30kg

our season is for the roebuck 16 may to 15 june

Buck, roe and fawn season is 1/10 to 15/1

no bag limits, but we dont have public lands, where everybody can hunt, so this is a own or lease deal.

IM GOING OUT TOMMOROW

best regards

peter
