The .455 Ely is the same ctg. as the .455 Webly. Brass is available, but it isn't interchangable with anything due to the exceptionally thin rim.(to my knowedge) : Factroy ammo that worked quite well in Africa, was a 260gr. FMJ at 600+ fps. The Brits held that speed of penetration, or length of time the bullet was in a body,(duration of penetration) increased the nerve shock to the system. This one, with it's very low velocity, certainly increased 'lag time'. : A friend gave me a few cases some time ago(5-10years), and it was brand new solid head construction. : I'll bet Starline makes it or some outfit like that. : .455 Ely (or Webly) can be loaded to about 850fps with a 250gr. bullet. A flat nose bullet would increase not only accuracy, but terminal performance as well. The large Break-open Webleys are preferred, but getting scarce. A Fosbery, semiauto revolver, is the 'cat's meow' in.,455's! |
