Note also, there is a .45 S&W which is about 1/10" shorter than the .45 Long Colt. My bro's .45 Colt Uberty Rem revolver works best with the shorter .45 S&W case, as factory-length .45 Colts are a 'tich' too long for it.
: The .45 Auto-rim is a .45ACP lenth case with a very beefy rim for mostly WW1 military-type Colt and S&W reveolvers thus chambered, which also used .45ACP rounds in 1/2 moon clips. Some of those big military .45 revolvers were also chambered for the .455 Webly as well.
