If I had unlimited funds, I'd use a shortened .577 NE case for a modern Howdah pistol.

If making a modern .577 Howdah, a problem might be the size of .577 double rifles actions, of bulk and weight. A Howdah pistol needs to be management in terms of bulk and weight fired one handed. A custom action would very much be needed.

Of course this is all theoretical.
