I'm not am expert by any means. Still learning, gaining experience.

I've a 1911 STI Trojan in .38 Super. Shooting +P .38 Super it makes a snappy bang, very noticeable by others, they comment on it. I don't notice any recoil issues. Maybe I'm slower shooting but I need practice, it's not the recoil IMO.

I have no idea if it's more effective in self defence. It's the "magnum", velocity debate. Is a higher velocity, maybe heavier bullet more effective? Or a larger calibre? My licence conditions are that it's a range target handgun.

The advantage I see for 9 mm is easier and cheaper to buy ammo.

I'd have one of each. And a ,45.
